Do You Really Need A Content Calendar?

What’s more difficult than posting on social media? It’s planning ahead for the content that you’re going to be posting. That’s where a content calendar comes into play… do you have one?

Why should you use a calendar for your content?

When using a calendar, you can create a template in a format that allows you to plan ahead. You can stop being overwhelmed, worried about what you’ll post and if people want to hear what you have to say. Having a calendar helps you to come up with a week or even a month’s worth of social media posts. Especially if you batch them all at one time!

A content calendar is a map of specific topics laid out on a recurring timeline. You’ll know to use a specific category of content, for various time slots. A few examples: Motivational Monday, Wacky Wednesday, Freestyle Friday, Fun Fact Friday, or Taco Tuesday!

Whatever it is, have some fun and play with different types of content. If you look online, you can look up social media holidays or social media special days. There is a day for everything! Did you know there’s a hotdog day, taco day (personal fav), and ice cream day?

Whatever you want to celebrate or share, share what you’re passionate about. Adding these special days to your calendar, allows you to plan ahead.

Tips in creating a content calendar

1. One thing to keep in mind as you’re creating your calendar is to work on it one or two days a week. It’s easier to plan for an entire week’s worth of content in 3 hours rather than spend an hour a day thinking about what to post.

2. Include flexibility in your plan! Even if you have content planned to release on a specific day, you can replace it with something that is currently a trending topic.

3. Talk about the topics that you’re interested in. A great starting point is to post about things that you are interested or passionate about. This makes it easier for you to connect with like-minded people, who happen to be your target audience.

4. Include a variety of content. You can post a video, a carousel post, a single image, or talk about your recent blog post or email. Your feed will be more interesting when you mix it up!

5. Use online tools to help you create your content calendar. You can use a dedicated Google calendar, which is a free tool. You can also opt to use paid tools like Buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Publr, Feedhive and many others.

Your content calendar will be your guide, and will help you plan your posts throughout the year. Don’t waste any more time and start creating your own calendar now!
